Summary
Where the Red Fern Grows tells the story of Billy and his two coon hounds. He secretly saves money to purchase the two dogs. They help protect him and help Billy hunt for raccoons.
Billy and the dogs are hunting for the ghost coon with other boys and one who was going to hurt Billy’s dogs fell on an ax and was killed. Finally, Old Dan is injured by a cougar and dies and Little Ann dies because of missing him. A fern grows at their grave and the story is that only an angel can plant a red fern.
